Frequently Aked Questions

Q. Do I have to work on board?
A. No, just relax on deck and let the professional crew do all the work. If you want to, you can take your turn at the helm or hoist a sail.

Q. What does my cruise rate include?
A. In addition to your berth, all meals and complimentary drinks at certain times of the day, as well as onboard entertainment are included. In addition to the complimentary drinks, Windjammers well stocked bars provide your favorite libations at great prices.

Q. I'm not going to be spending all day on the ship, am I?
A. No way! -Windjammer offers many reasonably priced shore excursions at most ports of call. Snorkeling, rain forest hikes, 12 meter yacht racing, mountain bike tours...you can do it all on a Windjammer cruise. Tours and excursions vary from island to island. Your Activities Mate or Purser will fill you in on the details.

Q. Do you rent snorkeling gear?
A. You bet! For only $20.00 a week ($30.00 for two weeks). For the first time diver, resort courses are offered through independent tour operators. Experienced divers should bring their certification cards to take advantage of the spectacular dives offered by dive operators at an additional expense.

Q. What will I have to bring?
A. Unlike the large cruise lines, we have no formal dress code. T-shirts, shorts and swimsuits rule the day. Dining is informal. Shorts are preferred attire for those strolls in town. Bring, sunscreen, camera, comfortable walking shoes, aqua socks for beach and deck, beach towels, and sandals. Windjammer's SeaChest offers everything you need for your cruise at reasonable prices, call for your free catalog 1-800-542-3366. We suggest you pack your carry on luggage with toiletries, medications, travel documents, swim suit and at least one change of clothes.

Q. I never leave home without my blow dryer. Any problems?
A. As they say in the islands, "No problem mon!" Electricity onboard is standard U.S. 110 volts, no adapters needed.

Q. Can I bring the crown jewels?
A. We checked with fashion consultants who are vehemently opposed to the t-shirt and diamond look. We suggest you leave your valuables at home, as there are no safes in the cabins. However, if you bring any valuables, be sure to read the limitations of liability and responsibility in the contract of passage.

Q. Will I get seasick?
A. Seasickness is seldom a problem aboard large sailing ships. The wind prevents much of the rolling motion that is usually the cause of "Mal de Mer."

Q. How much time will I have ashore?
A. Unlike many cruise lines, our passengers get the opportunity to spend most of the day exploring the islands. We do most of our sailing at night. But don't fret, we'll be sure to get in some day sailing also.

Q. What about money?
A. No need to stock up on local currency. The ol' Yankee dollar is as good as gold in the Caribbean. Rather than carry a lot of cash, we suggest small denomination travelers cheques. They are easy to cash into EC (Eastern Caribbean) Dollars, French Francs (the French Islands) or Belize Dollars or Lempiras (Belize and the Bay Islands).

Q. How do I pay for shipboard purchases?
A. No need to lug around cash while sailing on Windjammer. You can charge bar doubloons, Sea Chest purchases, and shore excursions to your cabin account. Windjammer accepts VISA, MasterCard, Diners Club, Carte Blanche, cash or travelers cheques.

Q. How about tipping?
A. How big a "thank you" is really up to you. Tips are optional but always appreciated. Gratuities are usually extended the last day of the cruise and shared by the entire crew except officers. The suggested amount is $50.00 per passenger per week.
